Thello is an open-access train operator running international services between France and Italy. Owned by the Italian state owned railway company Trenitalia, Thello trains provide both daytime and overnight travel between France and Italy. The Thello Paris-Venice route is a night train.
Your pet is allowed to travel on board Thello trains under certain conditions that may vary according to its weight. Pets under 5 kg travel free of charge and without reservation in the limit of one animal per passenger. However, they must travel in a bag, basket or cage of standard size. Considered as an item of luggage, the bag, basket or cage forms part of the authorized baggage allowance. Please check with the other passengers that the presence of your pet does not bother them. Should a passenger refuse the presence of the pet, the crew manager will have to accommodate you in another place.
For large dogs to travel on the Thello Paris-Venice Night Trains, the passenger should travel in a cabin for his exclusive use or shared with family or friends. (If you are traveling alone, you have to book a single bed cabin. If you are traveling together with 1 or 2 persons you should book respectively a double cabin or a 3 bed cabin). Maximum one dog per cabin; during the journey, the animal should not be left alone in the cabin; pets are strictly forbidden in the dining car. The dog should always be leashed and muzzled when leaving the cabin, boarding or unboarding the train.
According to the European regulations, your pet must: be fitted with an electronic microchip or have a clearly readable tattoo for identification purposes; be vaccinated against rabies; and have a pet passport.
Taking a pet to a foreign country involves preparation and planning far in advance of your departure date. Requirements for pet travel to a foreign country are set by the destination country. If you are you traveling to another country and bringing along your pet you’ll need to meet the animal health requirements of the country you are visiting.
