SJ is a government-owned passenger train operator in Sweden. Higher speed trains serve the Stockholm-Gothenburg (Västra Stambanan), Stockholm-Malmö-Copenhagen (Södra Stambanan and Öresund Line), Stockholm-Sundsvall and, seasonally, Stockholm-Strömstad, Stockholm-Oslo and Stockholm-Östersund-(Duved) lines. InterCity trains are Rc-hauled trains, often many 2nd class cars. SJ Regional services include double-deckers (X40), pull and push trains, X12, X14 and X52 cars. Dogs or other pets may be taken on board in specifically designated sections of the train without any extra charge. You may bring two animals for free and you need to reserve a seat in the area where pets are allowed. Pets are not allowed in 1 class. For larger pets, or if you want more space for your pet, there is an additional cost (the same price as a youth ticket on the route). If travelling through Sweden at night it’s possible to book the pet couchette. In this case you possess the entire compartment, regardless of number of travellers (1–6 persons).
Operated by SJ, the EuroNight train runs from Hamburg to Stockholm, stopping in Copenhagen along the way. Private compartments for one-to-three people come with their own shower, toilet and breakfast. Pet friendly train compartments are also available.
Taking a pet to a foreign country involves preparation and planning far in advance of your departure date. Requirements for pet travel to a foreign country are set by the destination country. If you are you traveling to another country and bringing along your pet you’ll need to meet the animal health requirements of the country you are visiting.
