Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) is a public transportation metro system serving the San Francisco Bay Area. The rapid transit elevated and subway system connects San Francisco with cities in Alameda, Contra Costa, and San Mateo counties. Pets are allowed aboard at no additional charge. The only requirement is that the pet must be secured in a container that is specifically manufactured for transport of a pet. Service animals must be on leash or harness. Animals must be kept off seats and out of aisles. Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA. No service animals in training, other than dogs, are allowed on BART on leash or harness.
Taking a pet to the United States involves preparation and planning far in advance of your departure date.
