Cape May–Lewes Ferry is a ferry system that traverses a 17-mile crossing of the Delaware Bay to connect North Cape May, NJ with Lewes, DE. The ferry constitutes a portion of U.S. Route 9, and is the final crossing of the Delaware River-Delaware Bay waterway before it meets the Atlantic Ocean. Cape May-Lewes Ferry consists of three ferry vessels and two terminal facilities. Its operations are based at its Cape May terminal, which is located in North Cape May, on the north shore of the Cape May Canal. The three vessels in the fleet carry both vehicles (passenger cars, buses, RVs, tractor trailers, motorcycles, and bicycles) and foot passengers. Each has a capacity of about 100 cars, selling out in advance during the popular summer weekends (although passenger capacity usually does not). Advance reservations are accepted. Pets are welcome on all exterior decks aboard all Cape May-Lewes Ferry vessels; however, pets are not permitted in interior spaces where food is prepared, served or consumed. Pets are not permitted on the shuttles. Pets must be on a leash and under control at all times. Pets are not allowed on seats and tables. If you plan on leaving your pet inside your vehicle please allow for proper temperature and circulation conditions. As long as your pet is on a leash and well behaved your pet is more than welcome to enjoy a meal with you at the ferry restaurant, On the Rocks Dockside Grill.
