Lake Tahoe Campgrounds offer many camping opportunities, from the convenience of a full service cabin or campground to the secluded primitiveness of wilderness camping. The Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) manages about 75% of the land within the Lake Tahoe Basin, so if you take your dog camping, you will probably end up on National Forest System lands. Developed campgrounds offer a range of facilities for the tent or RV camper. All developed campgrounds at Lake Tahoe charge a fee and there are many around the Basin to choose from. Camping is permitted in developed campgrounds only. Dispersed or vehicle camping is not permitted. The open season for campgrounds is dependent on snowfall, but they are generally open from Memorial Day to Labor Day at a minimum. Sugar Pine Point, Tahoe Valley and Zephyr Cove campgrounds are open year-round. Dogs on a leash are welcome almost anywhere within the LTBMU, except on designated swimming beaches and areas that are restricted for wildlife protection.
