Western Snowy Plover Dog Restrictions are in effect from March 15 – Sept. 15 during nesting season. The Western Snowy Plover is a small shorebird that relies on some Oregon beaches for survival. During their critical nesting season the U.S. Forest Service coordinates with Oregon State Parks and beachgoers to protect these threatened birds during a very sensitive time. Many Oregon beaches are not used by the birds and visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities there year round. On other beaches, designated as plover nesting beaches, dog walking is limited from March 15 through September 15. On plover beaches, ALL DRY SAND AREAS ARE CLOSED to entry March 15-September 15, except on designated trails. You may see portions of dry sand beaches and dunes roped off to protect known critical nesting areas, but dry sand both in and out of the ropes is closed. Walking (no dogs on or off leash) is allowed on wet sand only.
