Virginia Beach City Beaches are located in southeastern Virginia, where the Chesapeake Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean. A 3-mile boardwalk stretches along its beach-lined oceanfront. Dogs are allowed on the beach and boardwalk any time during the Spring, Fall and Winter months (before Memorial Day and after Labor Day weekend). Dogs are allowed off-leash on the beach only if they are under direct positive voice control and do not run uninvited to people or other dogs. Leashed pets are allowed on the boardwalk and may be off-leash on the beach. From the Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend, dogs on a leash are allowed on the sandy beaches north of 42nd Street and south of Rudee Loop (Croatan and Sandbridge) before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m. During the summer season, dogs on a leash are allowed on the boardwalk between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. This time of year, dogs are prohibited on the resort beach at all times (south of 42nd Street and north of Sandbridge).
