OFF-LEASH DOG BEACH. Just over 20 miles south of Stanley, in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, Alturas Lake Dog Beach is located near the Alturas Inlet Campground. A day use beach and picnic area is within walking distance of the campground on the north side of the lake. It has a separate parking area just steps from the beach. The designated swimming area offers plenty of room to launch paddleboards, kayaks, or canoes. Dogs are not allowed in the beach area, but on the far side of the swimming area there is section of the beach for dogs to be off leash and swim in the lake.
