OFF-LEASH DOG BEACH. Part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Fort Funston Beach is the former home to a military fortification established in 1900. It features 200-foot high sandy bluffs on San Francisco’s southwest coast. Dogs are allowed on-leash or off-leash on the beach. Dogs are not permitted at a the 12-acre Habitat Protection Area closure, fenced or signed areas, & Coastal Trail north of Horse Trail intersection due to erosion.
