Located just north of Vancouver International Airport at 900 Ferguson Rd, Richmond, BC V7B 1W7, Iona Beach Regional Park is an area of land made up of a long, narrow jetty of sand and grass along the mouth of the Fraser River. The beach area is long, mellow and usually fairly quiet. The park has has bathrooms, water fountains for humans and dogs, poop bags, beach access, park benches, picnic tables, bike racks and lots of parking. The majority of the walking route is along the beach or a sandy, unmarked trail before reaching the furthest section that is covered in logs. Sea birds are visible throughout the area as well as a fairly unobstructed view of the Georgia Straight south and west of Vancouver. There are two areas where dogs are not allowed — the ponds and areas surrounding them on the park’s east side, and the foreshore between Iona Jetty and North Jetty. These are both areas with high value as wildlife habitat. A leash-optional trail has been designated along the lower roadway on the Iona Jetty. Your dog must still be under your control. All other areas in this regional park are designated as leash-required.
