Part of the Point Reyes National Seashore, Point Reyes Beach (The Great Beach) features over 11 miles of undeveloped ocean beach. Dogs on a leash no longer than 6 feet are allowed on this beach from the North Beach parking lot south to the historic Navy installation/lifeboat station located approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) south of the South Beach parking lot. Pets are not permitted north of the parking lot from March 1 through September 30 as this area is protected habitat for the threatened western snowy plover.
