Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Beaches are located on the shore of Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The park extends for 42 miles along the shore and covers 73,236 acres. Beaches dot the lakeshore’s coastline from Munising to Grand Marais. Each beach gives visitors a stunning view of Lake Superior; most beaches are sandy, although a few are rocky and several are a combination of both. Dogs on a leash no longer than 6 feet are allowed only on certain beaches: Sand Point Beaches; Miners Beach; Lake Superior Overlook and Beach; Sable Falls Trail and Beach; and Lake Superior beaches directly in front of the campground and day-use areas. Pets are not permitted on the park’s hiking trails (even if carried); in the backcountry and backcountry campgrounds; Chapel Trails and Chapel Beach; Mosquito Trails and Mosquito Beach; all areas east of Miners Beach to the western edge of Twelvemile Beach Campground, including the entire Chapel-Grand Portal-Mosquito Loop Trails and beaches; and all trails and beaches within the Beaver Basin Wilderness. Though pets are permitted on personal or rental boats on Lake Superior, they are not permitted on national lakeshore beaches in the backcountry. Please remember, pets need to be on a six foot leash at all time, even when swimming.
