Oak Island Town Beaches are situated on the southern end of North Carolina’s picturesque coastline and include 10 miles of beachfront. The island itself is marked by the Atlantic Ocean to the south, and the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) to the north. The town boasts 65 public beach accesses on miles of sandy beaches, as well as fishing docks and piers, boat ramps and many other access points to the Intracoastal Waterway and the Davis Canal. As one of North Carolina’s only barrier islands that face directly south, beachgoers can enjoy magnificent views of both sunrise and sunset over the ocean, all from the same stretch of sand. Dogs on a leash are allowed on the beach year-round. During the tourist season (March 16th – October 15th), all dogs must be on a leash at all times. From October 15th to March 15th dogs are allowed off-leash on the beach from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. During seasonal periods where leashes are required, dogs must remain on their leash in all public beach areas; they may not be taken off-leash to enter the surf/water.
