Located 4 miles west of Guerneville on Hwy 116, Monte Rio Beach is the largest public beach on the lower Russian River. East of the Monte Rio Bridge is known locally as Big Rocky Beach. West of the Monte Rio Bridge is Sandy Beach. The upper parking lot gives access to this beach all year where those on foot can cut through the narrow paths leading down to the water. This small beach is popular for fly-fishing and the adjacent boat launch provides access to small fishing vessels. Dogs on a leash are allowed on Sandy Beach.
