Maryland State Beaches

Maryland State Beaches and dog swim areas are located in a number of parks throughout the state. Dogs on a leash are welcome in the parks. Dogs may be off-leash and under voice control while swimming in designated areas or hunting (with the appropriate permit). Dogs are allowed in the following state parks with swimming areas:
Assateague State Park – 7307 Stephen Decatur Highway, Berlin, MD 21811; pets allowed in day-use areas from Labor Day to the Friday before Memorial Day.
Cunningham Falls State Park-Houck Area – 14039 Catoctin Hollow Road, Thurmont, MD 21788; pets allowed anywhere in the day-use area except for sandy portion of the beach and lake from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
Deep Creek Lake State Park – 898 State Park Road, Swanton, MD 21561​​; pets are allowed to swim from shoreline in all areas except swimming beach, docks or fishing piers; pets are allowed in day-use area and lake (except for sandy portion of swimming beach area from Memorial Day weekend until after Labor Day).
Elk Neck State Park – 4395 Turkey Point Rd., North East, MD 21901; pets allowed in day-use areas, including North East Beach area, except for sandy portion of swimming beach area from Memorial Day weekend until after Labor Day.
Greenbrier State Park 21843 National Pike, Boonsboro, MD 21713; pets allowed in the day use area after Labor Day Weekend to Memorial Day Weekend; when the swim ropes are not in the water, pets are permitted on the sandy portion of the beach.
​Gunpowder Falls State Park – 7200 Graces Quarters Rd, Middle River, MD 21220; pets allowed in Hammerman area, except for sandy portion of swimming beach from Memorial Day weekend until after Labor Day.
Herrington Manor State Park – 222 Herrington Lane, Oakland, MD 21550; pets are allowed in day-use area, except on the sandy beach.
New Germany State Park – 349 Headquarters Lane, Grantsville MD 21536; pets allowed in day-use area and lake, except for sandy portion of swimming beach area from Memorial Day until after Labor Day.
North Point State Park – 8400 North Point Road, Edgemere, MD 21219; pets on a leash allowed except for the sandy portion of the water access area from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day.
Point Lookout State Park – 11175 Point Lookout Road, Scotland, MD 20687; pets allowed in day-use area except for fishing pier year-round, and beach and picnic area from Memorial Day weekend until after Labor Day.
Rocky Gap State Park – 12900 Lake Shore Dr, Flintstone, MD 21530; pets allowed in day-use area and lake except for designated sandy portions of swimming beach areas from Memorial Day weekend until after Labor Day.
​Sandy Point State Park – 1100 E College Pkwy, Annapolis, MD 21409; pets allowed October 1st through April 30th; must be leashed at all times unless they are in the water.
