Situated at the Southern tip of New Jersey in Cape May County, Lower Township shares a shoreline with the Atlantic Ocean and the Delaware Bay. Dogs are prohibited on the Delaware Bay beach from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the summer season. The ordinance only impacts township beaches. This includes most of North Cape May, where a public beach runs from the Cape May-Lewes Ferry to Emerson Avenue. The mid-day ban begins on Memorial Day weekend and runs through Labor Day. The rest of the year dogs are permitted on leash. Lower’s beaches literally run along the coast and are quite narrow compared to Cape May’s. Follow directions to the Ferry terminal, then make a right rather than turn into the Ferry complex.
