Del Mar City Beaches allow dogs on leash and off-leash depending on the beach and the time of year. New rules that expand the hours for off-leash dogs on portions of Del Mar’s beaches opens a section of the Main Beach — between 25th and 29th streets — to off-leash dogs before 8 a.m. during the off-season (day after Labor Day thru June 15th).
North Beach (29th Street to Solana Beach border):
From June 16th through Labor Day: Dogs must be leashed 8 a.m to dawn.
From June 16th through Labor Day: Off-leash dogs permitted from dawn to 8 a.m.
From the day after Labor Day through June 15th: Dogs allowed off-leash under voice control.
Main Beach (northern end of Powerhouse Park to 29th Street):
From June 16th through Labor Day: No dogs allowed at any time.
From the day after Labor Day through June 15th: Dogs allowed but must be on a leash except from dawn to 8 a.m
South Beach (Powerhouse Park south to Torrey Pines border at 6th Street):
From June 16th through Labor Day: Dogs allowed but must be on a leash and restrained at all times.
From the day after Labor Day through June 15th: Dogs must be on a leash and restrained at all times.
Powerhouse Park:
Dogs must be leashed at all times and are permitted on all walkways and
sidewalks. Dogs are prohibited in the children’s “Tot Lot” and adjacent grass area south of the beach path at the southern end of the park.
