Owned by the State of New Jersey, Higbee Beach Wildlife Management Area is a 1,159-acre wildlife management area near West Cape May, Lower Township, Cape May County, NJ. Higbee Beach is a one-and-one-half mile stretch of beach at the tip of Cape Island, along the Delaware Bay. Directions to Higbee Beach WMA: Follow the Garden State Parkway south to mile 0 and exit to the right for Route 109 North. Take Route 109 North to Route 9 south. Turn left onto Route 626. Cross the bridge and turn right onto New England Road. The road dead ends at Higbee Beach. Dogs on a leash are allowed on the beach only during the off-season, from September 1st to April 30th. Some areas with designated dog training areas allow dog training all year. A person may exercise or train dogs in designated dog training areas from May 1 to August 31 inclusive, only on the following select WMAs: Assunpink, Glassboro, Pequest, Tuckahoe, Black River, Hainesville (water dogs only), Salem River, Whittingham (upland and water dog areas), Clinton, Manasquan, Winslow, Colliers Mills, Millville, Stafford Forge. All dogs must be properly licensed. A person may exercise or train dogs on any WMA from September 1 to April 30.
