Part of the Los Padres National Forest, Sand Dollar Beach in Big Sur is located just 3.8 miles north of Gorda and 33 miles south of the Big Sur Station. It is the largest public beach on the Southern Big Sur Coast, offering a wide expanse of sand, picnic tables, toilets, parking. A large sign identifies the parking area next to the road. Shaded picnic areas offer ocean views. A short walk leads to stairs down to a large crescent beach with tidepools and rock formations. Open 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., year-round. Directions: Take highway 1, 30 miles north of San Simeon or 60 miles south of Carmel. Dogs on a leash no longer than 6 feet are allowed on the beach.
