The ITA Airways pet policy is as follows:
Pets are allowed in the cabin and in the hold.
Pet transport is permitted only for dogs and cats, both in the cabin (PETC) and in the hold (AVIH). The total weight (including carrier and food) must not exceed 12 kg on domestic flights and 8 kg on all other flights. The container may contain up to two animals of the same species, provided that the total weight remains within the limits indicated above.
For dogs weighing more than the standard cabin transport limits and up to 30 kg, ITA offers the new Large Dog On Board special service, available exclusively on a selection of domestic routes identified as Large Dog flights.
Under ITA Airways’ new rules, the dog lies on the floor in front of a window seat while the owner sits beside it. The dog must remain on a leash and wear a muzzle throughout the flight, but it does not need to travel inside a crate. In business class, dogs weighing up to 66 pounds (30 kg) are permitted in the cabin, while in economy the limit is 33 pounds (15 kg). A maximum of two larger dogs will be allowed per flight under the new program. The service will begin on selected domestic routes within Italy before expanding to additional flights. It is offered as a paid option, reservations must be made at least four days before departure, and passengers with allergies or concerns about dogs may request a different seat.
No pets can travel to the United Kingdom.
