A German railway company, Deutsche Bahn is the largest railway operator and infrastructure owner in Europe. As the number one long-distance passenger transport service in Germany, Deutsche Bahn offers both high-speed, long-distance services as well as regional routes. Take a glide-ride on a high-speed 174 mph flagship, Germany Intercity Express (ICE) train and connect to all major German cities including Hamburg, Munich, Berlin, Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Cologne. You can travel with small pets (under 10 kg) on Deutsche Bahn trains for free, as long as your pet is kept in a closed cage or carrier and does not bother other passengers. Larger dogs which are not being transported in a closed cage or carrier must wear a muzzle and are required to be kept on a leash at all times while on board the train. For long distance journeys, you are required to purchase a half-price ticket for your large dog. For regional journeys, you will need to buy a full-price adult fare ticket for your dog. For cross-border journeys, you are required to buy a child’s second-class ticket for your dog. Seats cannot be reserved for dogs on Deutsche Bahn trains and they do not issue mobile e-tickets for pets. Deutsche Bahn will send the ticket to you by post, or you can buy it directly at the train station.
Taking a pet to a foreign country involves preparation and planning far in advance of your departure date. Requirements for pet travel to a foreign country are set by the destination country. If you are you traveling to another country and bringing along your pet you’ll need to meet the animal health requirements of the country you are visiting.
