Covering over 18,000 acres in Harford and Baltimore Counties, Gunpowder Falls State Park includes more than 120 miles of multi-use trails, protected state wildlands, historic sites, fishing, kayaking, canoeing and a swimming beach and marina. Located in Middle River, the Hammerman Area features a 1,500 foot beach and swimming area on the banks of the Gunpowder River, and provides food concessions, picnic pavilions and tables, playgrounds, canoe/kayak rentals, fishing and short hiking trails. Lifeguards are on duty at the swimming area from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Pets are allowed in all undeveloped areas of the park and in Dundee Creek Marina area. Dogs on a leash are allowed in the day-use area, except on the sandy portion of Hammerman Beach from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, concession stand, restrooms and playgrounds.
