Amelia Island Beaches offer thirteen miles of pristine beach for swimming, surfing, fishing, jogging, kite flying, and beachcombing. South Fletcher (highway A1A) is the main road which skirts the coast of the island, and along it you will find many public beach access areas (look for the blue and white signs), some with parking and some for walking access to the ocean. Dogs are allowed on Nassau County’s Atlantic coast beaches, but within the Fernandina Beach city limits, all dogs on the beach must be on a leash. Pet owners are responsible for immediate clean up. (Main Beach Park has a doggie trash bag dispenser near the public restrooms but bring your own bags since they can run out). Dogs are not allowed on the beachfront in state parks (Fort Clinch and Amelia Island State Park).
