Located on the subtropical barrier island of Sanibel in the Gulf of Mexico, the J. N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge is part of the largest undeveloped mangrove ecosystem in the United States. Dogs on a leash no longer than 6 feet are allowed on Wildlife Drive, the refuge’s public access road.
