Colorado State Parks Pet Policy: Dogs are allowed in most Colorado State Parks provided they are on a maximum of a six-foot leash, under control and cleaned up after. Most campgrounds in the state parks allow dogs as long as they aren’t left alone. There are countless hiking trails throughout the parks that allow dogs. Areas deemed sensitive to wildlife, particularly during nesting or mating season, may be off-limits to pets. A few parks do not allow pets of any kind due to the natural wildlife that are found in the park. No dogs are allowed at Roxborough and Harvey Gap State Parks. Dogs are not allowed on the trails at Mueller State Park and Cheyenne Mountain State Park. Barr Lake, Cheyenne Mountain, James M. Robb – Colorado River and Mueller State Parks have some restrictions on where dogs are allowed. Pets are not allowed on swimming beaches or water-ski beaches at state parks. There are off-leash areas at Chatfield State Park in Littleton and Cherry Creek State Park in Aurora. Pets allowed in designated cabins in the following parks: Golden Gate Canyon State Park – Golden, CO; Navajo State Park – Arboles, CO; State Forest State Park – Walden, CO; and Vega State Park – Collbran, CO.
