Pets on a leash no longer than 6 feet are allowed in White Sands National Park, but are not permitted in federal buildings. Located in southern New Mexico, the park is known for its dramatic landscape of rare white gypsum sand dunes. Temperatures at White Sands can reach extreme highs; pets should never be left alone inside your vehicle. The park has two designated pet walking stations complete with pet poop pick-up bags. Both are located outside the visitor center; one is adjacent to the women’s restroom and the other is behind the picnic tables.
