Great Smoky Mountains National Park offers several different types of campsites: Backcountry – for backpackers; Frontcountry – a developed campground that has restrooms with cold running water and flush toilets. Each individual campsite has a fire grate and picnic table; Group Campgrounds – large campsites suitable for groups of eight people or more; Horse Camps – Small campgrounds, accessible by vehicle, that offer hitch racks for horses and primitive camping facilities. Pets on a leash no longer than 6 feet are allowed in campgrounds, picnic areas, and along roads. Dogs are only allowed on two short walking paths—the Gatlinburg Trail and the Oconaluftee River Trail. Pets are not allowed on any other park trails.
