Over 50 state parks and recreation areas offer camping in South Dakota. Comfort stations close down during the winter months, but camping is welcome year-round. Pets on a leash no longer than 10 feet are allowed in the campgrounds. Outside of campgrounds and day use areas pets must be under immediate control and more than 200 feet from other park guests. Pets are not permitted on designated swimming beaches, in any park buildings (including camping cabins, lodges and comfort stations) or on the Summit Trail at Bear Butte State Park.
