Washington State Ferries (WSF) operates car and passenger ferry service in the state of Washington. It runs ten routes serving 20 terminals located around Puget Sound and in the San Juan Islands. Dogs on leashes are allowed in all passenger areas, except galleys. All other pets must stay in a crate or carrier. Big dogs should stay on the floor. Small dogs should be on a lap or in a carrier. Owners must control their pets and clean up after them. Starting July 1, 2026, pets are allowed in three areas: on vehicle decks; in outdoor passenger areas; and in marked areas inside cabins on the opposite end from the galley. All pets must be on leashes and are not allowed in indoor food service areas, including onboard galleys, or on seats or tables. About half of the indoor passenger cabin on the galley end of the vessel, as will eventually be marked by signs. Pets may pass through this area while boarding or leaving the vessel but should continue through to pet-friendly areas without lingering. Walk on passengers with pets who choose to remain on the auto deck must stay with the animal for the duration of the sailing and ensure it is properly restrained. All livestock are required to travel in a vehicle when boarding the vessel.
