OFF-LEASH DOG BEACH. While each of Pacifica’s beaches is dog friendly, Esplanade Beach is the only one that is officially leash-free. Below a steep fast-eroding bluff with few access points, this secluded beach can be accessed via a long set of switchback trails and stairs at the north end of Esplanade Drive, near the Lands End Apartments. Directions: Take Highway 1 to Palmetto Avenue. Continue onto Palmetto and drive to Esplanade then turn left on Esplanade. Dogs allowed off leash at the north end of beach and on leash everywhere else.
