Operated by the U.S. National Park Service (NPS), Padre Island National Seashore Beaches are located just outside of Corpus Christi and include about 70 miles of undeveloped beaches and natural habitat. The longest stretch of undeveloped barrier island in the world, the park separates the Gulf of Mexico from the Laguna Madre, one of a few hypersaline lagoons in the world, and protects 70 miles of coastline, dunes, prairies, and wind tidal flats teeming with life. Dogs on a leash no longer than 6 feet are allowed almost everywhere in the park, including on over 60 miles of beach and all areas where you can drive on the beach. Pets are not allowed in any buildings. If you have a particularly aggressive or disruptive dog, please do not bring them onto the deck of Malaquite Pavilion, the boardwalk that goes from the deck down to the beach, and the short stretch of beach directly in front of the Pavilion (where the shade structures are located). But even there, pets and their owners can still access the beach using a pet access trail that goes from the parking area down to the beach. This trail is located on the north (left) side of the Pavilion. Avoid the stretch of beach right in front of the Pavilion, which is intended to provide a swimming area for children. Horses and pack animals are allowed only on the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico side of the park, except for the beaches in front of Malaquite Campground and Malaquite Pavilion.
