Bald Head Island is located on the southernmost of North Carolina’s cape islands, at the confluence of the Cape Fear River and Atlantic Ocean. The island features 14 miles of pristine beaches as well as the marshes and hiking trails. A 20-minute passenger ferry ride transports you from the ferry terminal at Deep Point Marina in historic Southport, NC to the island’s harbor, a distance of two nautical miles. Dogs are allowed on the beach but must be on a leash no longer than 10 feet from sunset to sunrise of every day during turtle season (May through November). At all other times, pets are permitted off-leash but must remain under direct supervision at all times.
