Chimney Beach is located on National Forest land along the northeastern Nevada portion of Lake Tahoe, 2.5 miles south of Sand Harbor right off of Highway 28 (about six miles south of Incline Village). It has a curving shoreline and large boulders that form a peninsula out into the water creating a small cove. Besides the main beach, Chimney Beach has several smaller pockets of sand, a small lagoon and some large flat boulders you can sun on. If you hike a ways to the south, you’ll come to the more secluded Secret Cove, a popular clothing-optional beach. There are two parking lots – one Forest Service parking lot is .25 miles south of Thunderbird Lodge, on the west side of Highway 28. The second is an additional .25 miles south. Parking is free at both locations. Directions: From Incline Village, the parking lot is 2.5 miles south of Sand Harbor on Highway 28. If you’re coming from the south, it’s 4.5 miles north of Highway 50. There are signs marking the trail near the parking lot restrooms leading you down to the lake. Chimney is a half-mile hike down from the parking lot, and Secret Cove is about a mile. Dogs on a leash are allowed on the beach.
