East End Beach, the only public beach in Portland, is a picturesque sand and pebble covered beach. It has expansive views of Casco Bay and nearby islands, and is a popular destination for recreational activities such as swimming, building sand castles, rowing and kayaking. Dogs are allowed off-leash on the beach only during the off-season, from the day after Labor Day to the day before Memorial Day. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, no dogs allowed on the beach between 9 am – 5 pm., whether leashed or not.
