The Stanford Inn by the Sea: Rustic Elegance on the Romantic Mendocino Coast

Four diamond small resort offering ten acres of gardens and pastures overlooking Mendocino Bay and the historic village of Mendocino. Rooms are paneled in ponderosa pine with redwood trimmed French Doors leading to private decks from which to watch the sunset. Each has a wood burning fireplace, king or queen beds, and seating areas with sofas. Pets may join their owners in the Inn's spacious lobbies. A large pool, sauna and Jacuzzi are protected from fog by a solarium. Massage in the Forest provides massage and body work as well as individually tailored yoga programs. The Inn's Catch A Canoe & Bicycles, too! offers kayaking and canoeing on Big River Estuary as well as mountain biking. Special canoes are set up to provide ample space for dogs as well as a bowl of fresh water. (Big River is tidal for eight miles and salty.) The Inn' nationally acclaimed restaurant, The Ravens, serves organic plant based cuisine - perfect for that little getaway with that special, well behaved pet - who can join you for dinner and breakfast. Breakfast is complimentary for inn guests, cooked to order from the menu. In the afternoons, guests meet for "Afternoons at the Inn," offering complimentary juices, tea and coffee and and a special dessert. The inn is surrounded by gardens and the garden's centerpiece is Big River Nurseries, a California Certified Organic Farm, which provides produce for the restaurant. The raised beds are adjacent to ancient apple and pear trees brought around Cape Horn in the late 19th century. The fruit trees are remnants of orchards once a part of the historic China Gardens - so called because Chinese farmers walked over Big River Bridge to farm the land.
