Located on Cockspur Island between Savannah and Tybee Island, Fort Pulaski National Monument preserves the site where in 1862 during the American Civil War, the Union Army successfully tested a rifled cannon, and compelled the Confederate garrison inside Fort Pulaski to surrender. The fort was also used as a prisoner-of-war camp. Pets on a leash are allowed anywhere in the park except the Visitor’s Center.
